Types of MOS transistors-diagrams of four types of MOS transistors

As mentioned above, the types of MOS transistors can be divided into N-channel MOS transistors and P-channel MOS transistors according to different conduction carriers. The type of MOS transistor of each channel can be further divided into two types: enhancement type and depletion type according to different working modes. Therefore, there are four types of MOS transistors, which are summarized in Table 1-1.

For the sake of clarity, their transfer characteristic curves and commonly used symbols are summarized in Figure 1-8 for easy comparison.

The broken line between the source and the drain in the symbol indicates that when VGS=0, there is no conductive channel between the drain and the source, which is an enhanced device; the solid line indicates that there is already conduction between the drain and the source when Voas-0 The channel is a depletion type device. In the figure, the direction of the arrow pointing from the substrate to the channel indicates an N-type channel; the direction of the arrow pointing from the channel to the substrate indicates a P-type channel.
